amaretto sours with homemade sugar-free sour mix, orange and pomegranate seeds

My husband and I wanted to create a Christmas drink that we’d have every year which we could make a tradition. After having spent the majority of quarantine watching all our carbs and sugar intake, we realized there wasn’t much that was festive and still relatively “healthy”. Then I took out my sour glasses from Riedel and decided we needed to make a take on an Amaretto Sour because it’s festive and delicious however, sour mix is LOADED with sugar.

You Will Need:

  • An Orange (we used one for two people – measure accordingly)
  • Disaronno Amaretto
  • A Shot Glass
  • A Measuring Cup and Spoons
  • Lime Juice (concentrate works best for this)
  • Pomegranate Seeds (if wanting to be festive)
  • Monk Fruit (granulated “sugar” found in baking isle)
  • Typically a sour mix would also call for egg whites (the citrus β€œcooks” the whites) however, we omitted them as they seem to raise my histamine levels

Take your measuring cup and fill it to a cup and a half with water and microwave for one minute. Remove and then add two tablespoons of Monk Fruit and stir until dissolved.

Take your orange and cut slices from it for garnish (we cut two slices and used the rest as juice. You want a lot of juice so judge accordingly and get as many oranges as you’ll need) and squeeze the remaining amount into a container.

In the same container, add the water with Monk Fruit and lime juice concentrate (or fresh limes) – we used the entire larger sized concentrate. Stir.

Use as much amaretto as you’d like, we measured into a shaker four shots (two shots per person), added some of the mixture with ice – shake vigorously.

Pick your glass – we recommend either sour glasses or something similar to these from Riedel

Pour, garnish with an orange slice and top the slices with pomegranate seeds (optional).

Keep a pitcher at hand!

Crystal pitcher is Waterford. Bone China dishes are Wedgewood. Charger is from Afloral. Crystal pedestal bowl is Waterford. Silverware is Napoleon Bee.
